Conference InfoWhat information is available here? That is the next paradigm shift in geographic information and one of the primary concepts behind location based services. The HERE conference looks at designing and developing rich end user experiences and providing information to the end user based on their physical location. The HERE conference looks across all industries and each of the areas of business, technology and design to facilitate the convergence of technology as it relates to Location Based Experiences (LBE).
HERE stands for Hyper Electronic Relevant Experience. It’s the way in which information is delivered to you in your current location, in addition to interests you have based upon preferences you decide. The HERE conference is meant to bring together experts and enthusiasts in the fields of mobile devices, GPS, GIS, information and knowledge transfer, geo-registries, location based services and mobile experience design. It’s not just receiving information being forced to you, its receiving relevant information you want. No longer will you have to think of something to search for, then proceed routing through an endless amount of results. We believe you should be given the opportunity to know what’s HERE, around you, at that time and place, whether it’s a history lesson or shopping, you should know what’s around you without asking. The previous paradigm involves you going to a central place that holds the knowledge you seek, looking up where to find it, and then sorting through volumes of unnecessary information to find that one gem you seek. The perfect example of this old approach is going to a library, asking a librarian where to find the section of interest, then taking a guess at which of the many books in front of you will have the information. It’s tedious and ineffective. The current paradigm has dramatically streamlined this process by adding the internet and connectivity to an enormous amount of information that can be sorted in a fraction of a second, with numerous and results returned to you. However, you are still required to sit in front of a computer, with access to the internet, and type in the things you want to know about. The current paradigm has improved some over the past few years, allowing for mobile devices to access the internet anywhere you are, and presenting a search result from which to choose. Those devices can also offer GPS and location based information, however, you still need to type the information on a tiny keyboard and then sort through the results returned off of search engines. This is still an inefficient procedure to follow and still is tiresome. But it fails to accurately capitalize on the potential of the market. GPS devices show you how to get from point A to point B, some even give you information relating to that path such as traffic or road construction, but once you get to your destination you need more information. Google altered the paradigm by providing you information WHERE you are located. For instance, you can search for pizza and find all the pizza places around WHERE you are. The model we propose is that information should be instantaneously delivered to you when you actually get to the pizza place such as the menu, the wait time, reservation information, past customer comments and ratings. You shouldn’t have to go after the information you want, that information should come to you. Ponder this: Instead of searching for Pizza in Baltimore and seeing 25 different places across the Harbor, how about searching for pizza and then seeing on your mobile device a coupon for a $7 large pepperoni pizza from the Italian restaurant right around the corner from where you are standing!! |
